XIII Latin American Conference on the Applications of the Mössbauer Effect - LACAME 2012
It is a great pleasure for us to inform you that the ¡°XIII Latin American Conference on the Applications of the Mössbauer Effect - LACAME 2012¡±, will take place in Medellín, Colombia from November 11th to 16th, 2012.
Mössbauer Spectroscopy is an experimental technique based on the nuclear resonant absorption and emission of gamma rays, which provides deep insight on the atomistic nature of different materials. It was discovered in 1958 by Professor Rudolf Mössbauer, who received the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1961. The technique has proven to be very useful in several areas of scientific and technological research.
Now we have a wide community coming from different countries, working in several fields, and having different cultural backgrounds. LACAME started in 1988 in Rio de Janeiro and has grown steadily since then, changing every two years the venue from different nations in which Mössbauer research laboratories exists.
Through this conference we intend to bring together the Latin American and the International community, to promote activities of basic and applied research, to encourage participation and interaction among students, young and senior researchers, and strengthen international cooperation around the field. To ensure the continuity of the Latin American Mössbauer Community we are planning different activities including:
(i) the creation of the new generation for Mössbauer spectroscopy in Latin America,
(ii) the presentation of advanced international research carried out by recognized scientists,
(iii) to give the opportunity that some postgraduate students present their thesis works to the community.
LACAME 2012 will take place in conjunction with a School on Recent Advances in Mössbauer Spectroscopy. The school, which is aimed at students and graduate students in Latin America, will be given by internationally recognized Mössbauer scientists.
